Overcoming real and/or perceived barriers to career success is a major challenge for many minority employees. It is generally agreed that mastering technical side of careers is not nearly as difficult as understanding and accepting the subtle unwritten requirements for success; and it is further compounded for minorities who may not be an active participant in the organization’s information networks where the requirements are explained.
The Success Formula is a two or three day course that offers minority professionals and managers opportunity to enhance their knowledge of the requirements of the business culture; some of which may conflict with norms and traditions of their ethnic culture. Participants will develop ways to maximize their overall contribution to the organization, and thereby optimize their career opportunities.
Topics focus on skill-building and include:
- Identifying the unwritten rules
- Coping with change
- Planning, organizing, and controlling
- Understanding the power of perceptions
- The impact of verbal and nonverbal communication
- Presenting and selling ideas in a professional manner
- Personal interactive styles
- Managing stress
- The importance of personal lifestyle activities
Participants will explore these topics through the use of role playing, films, slides, videotapes, group exercises, lecture and discussions. The course is focused on problem solving and requires active participation.
