This course introduces the remarkable challenges the new century presents to executives, managers and supervisors. These challenges are directly related to the dramatic changes that are occurring in the demographics of the available workforce; the reality of a globalized marketplace, the rapid changes of technology and the need for competitive positioning. It is necessary for us to update and change human resource systems, management approaches and organizational technology, which emphasizes the need for a true team effort from all levels of the organization.
Productivity is introduced as the major challenge faced by management when updating or changing systems. Effective teamwork then becomes the response to that challenge. Although teamwork has long been a part of management philosophy, its effective implementation has been limited. Managing Diversity explores the issue of effective teamwork by examining the interaction between people of different cultural backgrounds in the workplace and how to combine these valuable differences into a working productive team.
The course is designed to be highly participative and to increase skills in the practical application of management theories such as the:
- responsibility of managing change
- importance of coaching and mentoring employees
- tradeoffs between business and personal lives
- expectations of the particular business culture
- necessity of understanding and sharing the culture’s unwritten rules
- skills needed to develop and maintain effective teams.
Teaching aids include: paper exercises, (individual and group) discussions, video and PowerPoint slides.
- This course can be conducted in one or two day classes.
- A four hour overview is also available.
