Coleman Management Consultants (CMC) has been involved with designing and implementing mentoring programs for twenty-five years. Our core philosophy for a productive employee is that growth through coaching and mentoring is an absolute necessity. Coaching modules are contained in over 80% of all training conducted. Designing, implementing and consulting on existing mentoring projects represents about 15% of our business. In our current diverse society, when natural mentoring relationships are more difficult to form, formal mentoring programs is a viable way to increase your organization’s efforts in total population development.
We have helped the implementation of mentoring programs in organizations of several hundred to populations ranging from 3,500 to 13,000 employees. Harvey J. Coleman is currently serving as the Mentor/Protégé coach for the Governor’s Mentor/Protégé program for the State of Georgia.
CMC’s process for managing a mentoring project is to be heavily involved at the beginning and during the pilot phase, always available to help in any area, but dedicated to leaving the organization with in-house knowledge that will allow them to continue the program without our assistance. Success should be measured on both the immediate reaction and evaluation of the protégés/mentors, (written comments and interviews) and by other longer term criteria such as higher performance appraisals, better retention, waiting list of employees wanting to participate in future programs and a better candidate pool for future leadership positions.
