Why Mentoring
Programs Fail

  • Lack of visible leadership at the highest level.

  • Management expectation of immediate results.

  • No rewards or recognition for mentors.

  • Lack of support staff for the program.

  • Company vague about their own expectations and goals for the program.

  • Program owes its existence to the charismatic influence of one person and when they retire or leave, the program collapses.

  • Lack of frequent assessment to fine-tune and improve the process.

  • Lack of training of mentors – and protégé’s.

  • Inadequate design, structure, and promotion of the program.

  • Lack of a coordinator.

  • Interruptions of manager/employee relationship.
