As we progress into the 21 st Century it is more essential for individuals to not only understand but to also accept that they must craft their own career. Personal empowerment is critical. According to the dictionary `empower means` “to equip or supply with an ability; to enable.”
While organizations will continue to exist, it will be increasingly important for all professionals to “contribute more than they cost.” This will include enhancing current skills and acquiring new ones. In order to enjoy career achievement professionals must:
- Understand the unwritten rules.
- Continually update skills.
- Show flexibility.
- Set short and long term goals.
- Determine desired lifestyle
- Be mindful of the need to conform in certain areas.
- Recognize personal tradeoffs.
